For the past 5 years, the Dakar International Forum on Peace and Security has become a key event for decision-makers in Africa.

The Dakar International Forum on Peace and Security gathers every year numbers of African Chief of State and Governments, international partners, and multiple actors involved in Peace and Securities issues.  Launched at the 2013 Elysée Summit in France, the first Dakar Forum took place in december 2014 under the high patronage of Macky SALL, President of the Republic of Senegal, who enthusiastically decided to welcome the Forum which rapidly became a major event.

The first five editions met an international success, and gathered more than 500 high level participants coming from all over the world. Numerous and fruitful debates contributed to tackle the emerging security challenges and strategic issues the African continent is currently facing. They enabled new approaches in Defence, Security or Development Policies. They reinforced the african partnership with the relevant international organisations. The fifth edition of the Dakar International Forum on Peace and Security took place in November (4-5th) and was dedicated to the Continent new strategic issues on the following topic « Peace and Securityin Africa: stakes of sustainable Stability & Development ».

The issue of security in Africa is becoming increasingly complex, with fundamental changes contributing to a climate of instability and uncertainty. Security threats and challenges, such as violent extremism, are evolving and becoming inextricably linked with illicit trafficking in drugs, weapons and human beings, as well as cybercrime and fighting for control of resources. Various regions across the continent have seen an upsurge in intercommunal conflicts, further complicating the situation.

The origins of this amalgamation of violence lie in socio-economic causes and situational factors including poverty, unemployment, climate change, natural disasters and epidemics.
